Regulations

Regulations that came into force with the IAA include the Physical Activities Regulations (the Project List) and the Information and Management of Time Limits Regulations. As additional regulations come into force, they can be found on the IAAC website: Legislation and Regulations - Canada.ca.

Physical Activities Regulations (Project List)

The Project List identifies the types of activities considered designated projects subject to the Impact Assessment Act (IAA). In addition, the Minister may designate projects not described in the Regulations if, in the Minister’s opinion:

  • the project may cause adverse effects within federal jurisdiction or adverse direct or incidental effects or
  • public concerns related to those effects warrant a designation.
Information and Management of Time Limits Regulations

The Information and Management of Time Limits Regulations :

  • provide the circumstances in which legislated timelines may be suspended;
  • outline the information that the proponent must provide in its project description to support the Planning phase; and
  • outline documents that the Agency must provide to guide the impact assessment.
